LIL BIBBY DETAILS JUICE WRLD SIGNING $3M RECORD DEAL – ONLY FOR ‘LUCID DREAMS’ TO LOSE 85 PERCENT TO SAMPLE CLEARANCE

Even in his short time as an artist, Juice WRLD managed to shake up Hip Hop’s streaming landscape as a force to be reckoned with. Juice’s manager and rapper, Lil Bibby, sat down with VladTV for his first in-person interview in years where he reflected on Juice’s lucrative $3 million Interscope deal and the monstrous success of “Lucid Dreams.”
“We get a call Interscope is interested, so we fly to [Los Angeles],” Bibby said. “We still got nothing out and no numbers. They watching him record, we do the meeting. I’m playing the music like, ‘This is the best song that I’ve heard in 10 years and I know what’s finna happen. I really don’t need you guys.’”
Bibby continued, “The label was telling not to put this one out and let’s work ‘All Girls,’ I said, ‘Fuck that, this is the song I need out right now.’ I knew this was the song that was going to get everybody.”
The Grade A Productions boss said his team was in the process of clearing “Lucid Dreams,” which interpolates Sting’s 1993 hit “Shape of My Heart,” but couldn’t get the paperwork finalized in time with the scorching record already reaching the masses in 2018.
“We was in the process of clearing it, but this shit was blowing up,” Bibby said. “[Sting] loves the song, wouldn’t you?”
Sting reportedly took 85 percent of the profits made off the 6x-platinum smash, but Bibby is looking for the Grammy Award-winner to give a portion of it back to charity.
“I gotta shake Sting down, he’s gotta donate some money to my mom’s charity. That was a huge hit, but my lil’ bro was a machine. Juice don’t care about money, he just like creating.”
Sting has spoken about the interpolation, which he approves of, and joked in the past about how the record will be putting his grandkids through college.
“This is such a tragic loss for the world of music, a young life with so much potential and a unique and precious talent,” the rock icon told Billboard following Juice’s tragic 2019 death. “‘Lucid Dreams’ was my favorite of all the many interpolations of ‘Shape of My Heart,’ it will resonate for many years to come. My sincere condolences to the family.”
“Lucid Dreams” has compiled more than 1.5 billion streams on Spotify and reached a peak of No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
